Abstract

Many verses of the Holy Qurān contain juristic injunctions and complexities. In the era of Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallāhu ’Alayhi Wa Sallam, the companions had no problem in understanding the Holy Qur’an due to its revelation in ’Arabic Language as they were adept in ’Arabic. And if they confronted difficulty somewhere, they would turn to Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallāhu ’Alayhi Wa Sallam and He Ṣallallāhu ’Alayhi Wa Sallam would explain the verse or whatever problem the companions faced. During the life of Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallāhu ’Alayhi Wa Sallam it was golden time for Muslims. During this time, legislation, and interpretation of the scripture was done by Prophet Muḥmmad Ṣallallāhu ’Alayhi Wa Sallam himself. When Prophet Muḥmmad Ṣallallāhu ’Alayhi Wa Sallam left, the companions sometimes, developed differences in considering and interpreting the verses of the Qur’an specific to injunctions. The reason for the difference was that the companions shared their understanding of the verse and then, another companion would come up with more accurate and clearer explanation the first had to change his meaning of the verse. After the time of Prophet-hood and that of the companions, A‘immah Kiarām (Grand Scholars), Jurists, and Scholars of Islām ordained certain guidelines and principles in the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah in the light of which solutions to complexes were deduced. Books have been written on the methods of deduction from the Qur’an which are called Aḥkām Ul Qur’an. In this treatise, we have discussed the history of codification of Aḥkām Ul Qur’an and commentary on contemporary representative books.
