Importance of Health Care in the light of Prophetic Seerah

Abstract

This paper describes Islamic concept of health care. Islam sees health in a holistic sense. Health is a bounty, a trust and every Muslim is responsible to take good care of it. A Muslim must keep his body fit on physical and psychological levels. Neglect of one’s health is a sin, so one should take care of one’s physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual health. This paper describes that: health care is a religious obligation, that in Islamic framework health promotion involves pro-active measures that make health better. Some basics of health care and well being are discussed in this paper in the light of seerat. Author has presented the importance of health care in the light of sayings of Prophet Muhammad pubh and presented some examples of his way of life in regard of health care, also from authentic Islamic sources. This research lead the author to the conclusion (findings) that: To be healthy and strong is a religious obligation for Muslims. They should adopt a healthy lifestyle in terms of diet, activities and routines, sleeping schedule etc. Health is an asset in Islamic perspective so Islam presents a complete framework for an ideal healthy and that it should not be taken for granted.
