Usage of Ventilator and Contemporary Jurisdictions: A Critical Study in Shariah Perspective

Abstract

There is no doubt that human life is precious. Survival of a human being is the survival of all humanity. Life Saving research have achieved high priority among SDGs. Ventilator provides artificial atmosphere for the save of human life and Islamic shari’a apparently allows to use such life-saving medicines, items, and devices at their ultimate need stage. During COVID-19, there is sheer increase of ventilators usage to save human life which urges many questions related to the usage, occupying, leaving, and donating the ventilators for the saving of human life in shari’a perspective. Second aspect also came into notice that many Islamic jurists gave their Juristic Opinions (Fâtwās) on this issue so critical analysis of these opinions is also need of time to disseminate single view on this topic. In this article, the concerned data was collected through books, articles, videos and Fâtwās which were critically analyzed on Qurān and Hādith perspective to conclude that at which level, Islamic shari’a permits the usage of ventilators and what is single accumulated opinion of contemporary Islamic Jurists on the topic.
