Abstract

Mr. Fouad Qandil, An Egyptian author was born on October  05, 1944 in Banha. He held bachelors of Art degree in Philosophy and Psychology from Cairo University.He was awarded with the Qabbani Cup in short story collection category in 1979. His other achievements are winning Nagib Mahfoz Award, Tayyab Salih Prize and state prize of excellence in literature 2004. He held a central position in literary generation of the 1960. Out of many publications, he wrote 22 novels and 15 short story writing.His literary work attracted the masses especially critics and academic circles. His famous novel publications are ‘The Ceiling, Wawa times, The roots of temptation, Kiss of life, Loving soul, Let the door open etc. His most famous short stories are Sun honey, the Night talk and Friday market etc. Since Fouad Qandil wrote several novels in diversified fashion so one cannot tag him to any specific school of thought.

His majority work falls in realistic and fancy category with amalgamate of various writing technique to attract the reader. I shall discuss one of those novels in which he highlighted social aspects such as administrative corruption, rape, drug abuse, irony and humor ,spread of chess in the society, infertility and childbirth . He died on June 03, 2015.
