The views of biographers on the date of birth of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): An investigative and critical review

Abstract

Life of noble prophet Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) is such a topic regarding which there are different quotes and different viewpoints of historians, scholars, biographers specially biographers of Seerah-tun-Nabi. This topic has always remained in discussions. Chronologically, such biographers are classified as (1) Primitive Writers (ii) Middle Age Writers (iii) Contemporary Writers. The opinions or the point of view of these Seerah writers, scholar and historian can be found in the books of Seerah, of the Holy prophet (peace be upon him) and also in the books of Islamic history. In this discussion we have presented a brief and holistic viewpoint, based on arguments and historical facts. In this we have presented viepoints and assessment of all three sorts of history writers. Since the motive of our discussion is to highlight the birth of noble prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) hence argument of learned scholar, historian, Seerah and biography writers are quoted in connection to this topic.
