Social Reforms by Makhdūm Jahāniān Jāhan Gasht: A Critical Analysis

Abstract

Aḥmad Kabīr Jalāl Surkhposh Bukhārī commonly known as Makhdūm Jahāniān Jāhan Gasht was a legendary Sufi Scholar of his time. He was one of the earliest Sufi Scholars who belongs to Syyed linkage in Subcontinent. Today, the linkage of the Majority of Sayyed families belongs to him. He always struggled against Social evils prevailing in the Indian society of that time. He preached among Non-Muslims with love, care and peace that is why he won the hearts of Non-Musims and they embraced Islam. He not only amended the the mistakes commonly prevailed in common peoples but also revised the methods of sufism too. Moreover, he also preached among the rulers of that time and guided them the true path of Islam. In this way, his services regarding presenting the true picture of Islam and acting upon the teachings of Islam, he presented the true model of Islam. That is why, he was respected and honoured by all stakeholders i.e. Sufis, Rulers, Scholars and laymen etc. This study is an attempt to endeavor his effects regarding Social efforts to curb social evils of his era.
